One Lucky Guy

You're a surgeon.   A father to five young kids.   This is not how you should be spending your free time.

Big props to him for chasing things that give him a real rush, I do admire that. If twirling about a bar on the edge of a precipice is what gives him a rush then more power to him. Shame he nearly left his five children without their father.

I don't have access to surgeon money to fund my adrenaline dreams so I am more than content to settle for an occasional trip to Magic Mountain. I've been getting manageable little thrills there since I was a boy.

I will offer that I can feel just as thrilled pulling that first catch out of the water on Cowichan Lake as I get from any thrill ride or stunt. It isn't the same type of thrill of course, but it is just as satisfying to me. Never underestimate the power of angling.

BTW, Blogger's captcha tests have grown downright diabolical lately.

There's all kinds of crazy, Mound.

We see things a bit differently, Elliott. I always had an appetite for high risk activities involving intense concentration and narrow margins but I put all that aside when I had my children. There's a reason they're called "dependents." They're dependent on us not doing bone-headed things that might leave them without our parental support.

It wasn't that much of a sacrifice. When they finished school and were no longer dependent, I was able to go back and rediscover a good bit of the stuff from the past. Not all, but enough. Just the rush of truly carving the corners on the Pacific Coast Highway in California is enough for me now.

And, you're right, about Blogger's tests - they're a pain in the ass lately.

@ Owen, you're right, that's crazy. Still, if I was 20 and single again, I'd love to learn to fly a squirrel suit.

The way I look at it, I'm all ready hurtling through space as astronomical speeds. I just want to sit back, and enjoy the view.
